The problem

A 2-tier dish rack for an organized, dry kitchen

A pile of freshly washed dishes taking over the whole counter, water running the wrong way and cutlery dropped in at random: that is everyday life in most kitchens. A 2-tier dish rack brings the structure that is missing. The upper tier keeps plates and glasses upright and separated. The lower tier takes care of bowls, pots and larger items. The drip tray at the bottom collects all the water and empties easily into the sink. The result: a clean, dry countertop and dishes that actually dry properly.

The construction

Two tiers, the whole dinner service in one place

The upper tier holds up to 10 plates in sizes from 15–30 cm (5.9–11.8 in). They stand upright in dedicated metal slots, so the plates do not collapse, do not knock into each other and dry quickly with air circulating all around. That gives a far more even and efficient dry than an ordinary single rack where plates crowd together lying flat.

The lower tier is open and roomy for up to 12 bowls, pans, pots and anything else that will not fit upright. The tier carries heavy items without bending. On the left side of the rack sits a wide holder that keeps cutting boards and serving trays on edge, so they take up no extra surface and dry along their sides.

The details

Drip tray, cutlery holder and mug hooks

The removable drip tray at the bottom makes it easy to keep the counter dry. Water collects, the tray lifts out and empties straight into the sink, so there are no water rings on the countertop and no wiping up again and again. The separate cutlery holder with four compartments holds up to 15 pieces of cutlery and utensils, each sorted into its own compartment. Forks in one, spoons in another, and knives or wooden utensils in the wider compartments.

On the right rail of the rack sit four mug hooks where mugs and glasses hang opening down. They dry quickly and without collecting water inside. The hooks are adjustable and fit most mugs and glasses. The whole rack is matte black powder-coated metal that is easy to wipe down and keeps its looks without rusting in normal indoor use.
